The Foundation of Minds in Motion

Minds in Motion was created when we realized there was a need for developmentally appropriate preschools in Anderson. We wanted to be able to create a preschool that centered around the idea that children learn best through playing, exploring and engaging with their environment.

We also know how important movement is for all children. Research suggests that promoting movement and activity in young children can help increase memory, perception, language, attention, emotion and even decision making. Studies show that when language is combined with movement, learning increases 90 percent! Therefore, our preschool strives to use play and movement to teach important early childhood skills (creativity, problem solving, letters, numbers, shapes, etc.)

How Will It Work?

The beginning of our day will be spent in our classroom with a majority of time being spent on free play. The children will be able to choose what and how they play with the materials that the teachers have carefully selected to meet that weeks themes/learning goals. During this time, teachers will help facilitate learning through the children’s play. After a short story and songs, we will have a healthy snack.

After snack, the second part of our day will be spent in the gym. We will start with a small teacher directed movement acitivity that goes with the days themes/learning goals. (i.e. letter or shape work). The children will then have a chance to free play in the gym.
